Reprinted from Hailey Historic Preservation Commission Walking Tour The James McDonald Home : 702 3rd Ave. S Now called the Ellsworth Estate, this handsome home sits on two acres of park like property belonging to James McDonald, a British Oil Company heir. He had the home built in the early 1920s for his bride Beulah Lamb, a Hailey girl. The house was purchased by the Fox family in the 1930s. In 1945-61 it was used as the Mormon Church. Later, the Ellsworth Family lived there as residents. Around the late 1980's Sonja Tarnay purchased, restored and converted it to a Bed and Breakfast. The original home was built by Jack Rutter's, Cornwall England immigrant, his first major project. He also built the Hailey Hotel (now the Barkin' Basement), the Masonic Temple, the Liberty Theatre, Harris Building, American Legion Building and the Lone Star Store.
